Dadaroma – 溺れる魚(Oboreru Sakana) Translation

Title: Drowning Fishes

In this transparent fish tank world
the fallen drop of black ink can’t be scooped out
and the fishes open their mouths
and get soaked (by the ink) as well.

Truth can be bought by money,
mannequins disposed in line
on the pedestal of conspiracy,
but even so nobody seem to suffer.

The definition of the freedom to force.
People who cannot notice manipulated.
Stop talks. no, I am.*

(Everyone is like) drowning fishes in a fish tank,
like birds in a cage, in a narrow sky
Without us noticing it, we,
our love, our hate,
are disappearing, vanishing
until only dark, only dark, only dark remains.

The beautiful things reflected in the television
worsen our sight
And even the the warmth that barely remains,
what is its price?
Even that will disappear, vanish
until only dark, only dark, only dark remains.

The definition of the freedom to force.
People who cannot notice manipulated.
Stop talks. no, I am.*

(Everyone is like) drowning fishes in a fish tank,
like piled up dust on a light
The ones wearing suits are treated as important,
we call them heroes…
is this, is this
just all?

A plane fell, many died
and you must forget the TV news in the tomorrow.
“Two child who often played together
committed suicide, have you heard that?”
“Poor souls…”  “That’s true…”
but you can’t even remember their names.

Come on, let’s sleep tonight
turn off the lights
and wriggling say “goodnight”
to the real people, to the desires and to the world…

Notes and other

*Lyrics in italic are in English in the booklet, they are in a messy English therefore it’s hard to understand their meaning. A correction of those words may be something like:

“We force the definition of freedom

and the people who don’t notice it are being manipulated.

Enough talking, I am…”

I remember when I first watched the video, the crudeness of the image and of the lyrics as well left me without words: the way Dadaroma is able to criticize the world is unique and it’s something new in the Visual Kei scenario. Depicting people as fishes in dirty fish tank, striving for some clean water, is a really dark and powerful image, just as if we were drowning in our own everyday routine while not being able to love or hate the other, just letting them flow away as a normal day.
