Dadaroma – Money Translation

Kanji-Romaji

Translation

Empty shells of suits, Yamanote*

an elder fell on the road, everybody pretend not to see it,

an ideology full of splendour,

this is the Tokyo metropolis.

One note of 10000 yen for some high school girl,**

It’s 2 p.m and in front of the statue of Hachiko in Shibuya

there are scared pieces of chicken meat,

it’s such a good joke, it’s an “happy meal”, got it?***

it’s simple MONEY GAME.

Taxes grow

and the statesmen in a trip for the hot water springs are persuaded by tears,

all the part time workers boycott their job,

this is the “Welcoming Japan” Nice funny joke!

it’s simple MONEY GAME.

Are your one?For the MONEY!
Are your one?For the MONEY!
Are your one?For the MONEY!
Two,for the SEX?Tree,for the LOVE?

Are your one?For the MONEY!
Are your one?For the MONEY!
Are your one?For the MONEY!
Two,for the SEX?Tree,for the LOVE?
Please let honest opinion.****

Fuck You —–

What the hell is something that can’t be bought with money?

In the end, we are just moved by our desires.

Even the treasures that we kept when we were children

now look like rubbish to our eyes.

Notes and Others

*=the most crowded metro station in Tokyo. Always full of “salaryman”.

**=JK stands for “joushi kousei”, indicating a general category for “high school girls”, it is also used as a category for pornographic video. In this line I think it’s a critique to high school girls hired by older people for sexual performance and/or similar activities (which in Japan is not as uncommon as one would think)

***=the joke here is that these people, scared like chicken, are in a small place at lunch time, just like the chicken meat inside the McDonald’s Happy Meal. Also, there is an inside pun between the word “chicken meat” and “joke” (which is written with the kanji of “skin” and “meat”).

****= This looks like the structure of a typical Japanese survey, I imagine the question being “What’s the most important thing to you?” and the three answers being “1) Money 2)Sex 3)Love”. In the song clearly wins the first option. And I know, that English can hardly be defined as “English”.

A really strong critique to society filled with jokes, cynicism and hate: that’s all of I have to say.
