Almost 10 posts after: asterisks, vacations, J-pop Asia and much more…

So, a lot of things happened during these days.

People keep copy-pasting my translations on various websites (but at least they put the link to the original post) leaving the asterisks but without transcribing the notes linked to those asterisks. I mean… what’s the point? In some song there are 6 asterisks and if you don’t put any notes it just seems that I used them to censor a swear word. Come on, if you guys are just going to copy-paste, at least do it right! I spent something like 2 hours to change the colour of the asterisks to red, so maybe this will help you understand.

From July 19th to 29th I’ll be on a vacation, so that means that there won’t be any more translations in July (maybe).

Some of my translations featured on J-pop Asia, which is a quite popular sites about Japanese music. Now, I don’t like being in the spotlight nor the fact that my translations were featured with the asterisks but without the notes (really?!), but this may be something like a turning point: I feel like in this way I’m helping to make the community a bit more conscious about Japanese music.

Of course, other people used my translations  but all of them didn’t mind the fucking asterisks.

Meanwhile Europe is tearing apart, but don’t worry, I’ll try to keep the rhythm of my post as much constant as possible.

When I grasped the whithering flower, it broke into pieces and scattered,

it dances in the wind, I looked up at the sky and in it there was no hope, no light, anything at all, anything…

In a warped birdcage, I was tamed and, without showing my fangs, I gulp down everything.

My heart was breaking, but even so I loved you,

you who shone on the darkness and gave me the meaning of life…

During the time I kept walking in this world, have I been able to convey something to you?

Let me sleep in this dream just a little longer.

The sound of the bell announcing the end resounds ruthlessly.

During the time I kept walking in this world, have I been able to convey something to you?

Let me sleep in this dream just a little longer.

I’m gazing at the end and the future* with a faint consciousness,

It would be nice if one day we could meet somewhere, right? Thank you.

Notes and Other

Words in Italic are in English in the original lyrics.

*=I’m sure this is a reference to one of their most famous song 終わりと未来 (Owari to Mirai, End and Future).

The last song from girugamesh, I had to translate it.

Title: Live, live!

“One, two”

The resentment for inferiority complex

is a story about the worry for the future.

I want to make it end, you won’t make it end, you can’t end it,

that’s the suggestion in the crystal sphere.

Where is a will there’s a way, but if there’s no will you can’t do it.*

Where is a will there’s a way, but if there’s no will you can’t do it.*

Zero points, one point, again and again, four, five, six, four, five, six, four, five, six.**

Rewind

Rewind

Re-doing

Again and again

Live, live, live, live

until these eyes rust completely and reflect the light.

Live, live, live, live,

these eyes will beautifully go away, that’s my fate.

Live, live, live, live

until these eyes rust completely and reflect the light.

Live, live, live, live!

Red, blue, white, I want to see, the future!

Small, frightening, world, I hate it, I hate it!

To sing, I won’t calm down, there’s no one, I can’t shoot in the bull’s eye!
Sleepy, slow, deep, cool, I want!

A sweet smell, faint expectations are dangerous!

Sing and dance and dance

round and round and round!***

The strongest man ever existed

even today is an irresponsible.

That’s no good, this is no good,

that too is no good,

it’s really really bad, so I quit.

The good you do for the others is the good you do for yourself.

The good you do for the others is the good you do for yourself.

Zero points, one point, again and again, four, five, six, four, five, six, four, five, six.**

The sad future won’t come back a second time.

This childish me

wants to become that way,

there’s no solution for this and that.

Hey, hey, it’s so boring,

it’s not enough, it’s bad.

“One, two”

This song ends like this.

Notes and Other

*=The first part is a famous saying, the second part was made up.

**= a long pun using numbers. Also, when the singer sings the “four, five, six” part it sounds similar to “shake along”.

***=All the sentences in this stanza can’t be completely translated: the words may seem not linked, but they are on higher level of communication in which the reader imagines all the links (it’s something you can do in Japanese, but you quite can’t in such an easy way as in Japanese)

A nice song about all the things of live: from struggling to beauty, from inferiority complex to determination. This song too has the same “free writing style” as 簡単な言葉 (Kantanna Kotoba) and I just love it. I really recommend reading the lyrics while listening to the song: it really changes a lot.

Title: Simple Words

I can’t make it in simple words,

I can’t make it in simple words,

but even so, even so,

I can only find simple words,

I can find only them.

The Sundays in which I stay in my small room

without cleaning it after making it a mess,

make the horror of being hurt come back on stage.

In order to heal from such days I sleep.

For sure, in these days, the necessary things

pretend to be foolish and and play dumb.

Without giving up I will search

for that place where I can’t go back one more time.

A Sunday in which I saw from afar

your gloomy back.

The explanation of my reasons,

which I couldn’t express with a single beloved word, still

it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts.

I didn’t know how to be loved and

the wrong way I loved you

was just egoist, I remember all of that and I’m destroyed.

I imagined. It’s all frightening and dark,

this common world and this empty future.

But I still pretend to be foolish and play dumb.

It seems all a lie, and I laugh.

I can’t make it in simple words

so it hurts,

so I’m crying.

I’m at the point in which my head can’t think.

I’m at the point in which my body can’t react to anything.

The person who I greatly grief for

was you.

The reason why I couldn’t stay with you, you ask?

I loved you so much that I was no match for you and

my undisciplined* heart is already all broken and

still it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts.

But if I became obedient

the world will crumble,

or at least this is what I feel.

The explanation of my reasons,

which I couldn’t express with a single beloved word, still

it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts,it hurts.

The thought expand so much that I can’t express it in simple words,

“Wait, don’t go!”

Why couldn’t I say such words? Goodbye

Goodbye

I can’t easily

make it in words.

Notes and Other

*=the word has also the meaning of “sluttish”, but I think that’s a bit too much considering the tone of the song.

Really sincere song, it sounds like the artist wrote this without any restraints: the sentence are really close to the spoken Japanese which is a lot more “free” in the construction of the phrases and some of them are quite of a mess. Still, I really appreciate the honesty of these words and I hope you to do the same.

Title: Coelacanth Dance

They lined up in the deep sea, a parade of melancholy, who is the leader?

Look at the boredom, it’s the worry of the incoming rain after the clear sky.

He’s a sly person always asking for something vague, don’t you think? But war is no good.

You got some hints, can you guess who is he with your ideas? Come on.

Don’t have expectations about the future,

we don’t need such things.

There’s only the present, the present

in which want to make my heart beat.

It’s a destiny of swimming and swimming,

floating a life with an end,

dreaming in a sea without end,

it’s the coelacanth dance.

A rudder in the deep sea, a parade of melancholy, who is the leader?

Look at the boredom, it’s the bow to the incoming rain after the clear sky.

He’s a sly person always breaking promises, don’t you think? But war is no good.

He recites the Amida mantra for desperation?

It’s a destiny of swimming and swimming,

floating a life with an end,

dreaming in a sea without end,

it’s the coelacanth dance.

Shake free from the meter, bang!

(Shake free from the meter, bang!)

I want to see thing I’ve never seen!

(Shake free from the meter, bang!)

I want to do things I’ve never done!

(Shake free from the meter, bang!)

I want know what’s different between me and the other people!

(Shake free from the meter, bang!)

If you want to do it, let’s go!

Ding Dong Dance!

It’s a destiny of swimming and swimming,

in a world which keeps on changing

a coelecanth

goes through this unchanging me.

Make your heart jump and make noise,

back and forth, up and down,

let’s go keeping our faith,

it’s the coelacanth dance.

Notes and Other

The coelacanth is one of the oldest fish ever existed. I guess that in the song it represents the “unchanging” part of every human (belief, spirit, personality ecc), in contrast with its aspects which may seem as old and lacking of any force.

Title: Aun*

Like a miniature garden, in the unending flow of nothingness, illusion is nothing but truth itself,**

a cavern of puppets which won’t speak, just like an hunged up skull.

With the desire of something we throw something away,

inside the palm which is expecting something, what did you desire…?

Come on, let’s start, rise up your warcries, gaze at the hades, it’s time to walk.

Come on, let’s finish it, the crushed and split open me will vanish into eternity.

The bottom you touch is the darkness of nothingness, fall, fall, fall and realize.***

This is “Aun”*

Come here, come and see, the eyes of judgement were gazing at me.

Please, you enjoyed your pleasure and it softly weighed on your back.****

With the desire of something we throw something away,

the inside of the palm which is expecting something, that is the starting point.

Come on, let’s start, rise up your warcries, gaze at the hades, it’s time to walk.

Come on, let’s finish it, the crushed and split open me will vanish into eternity.

Come on, let’s continue, eternity still hasn’t opened its mouth and drooled.

Come on, let’s continue, remain as a spectator of reality and see through it.

Like a kaleidoscope,

it’s the end of the beginning of the end.

Notes and Other

*=it’s a  very vast Buddhist concept and also a sort of magical expression (mantra) to gain maximum focus during meditation and reach Enlightment. To put it in a very simple and incomplete way, it means that life is an illusion distracting us on our way to Enlightment, but even so our life is not to be left behind because it hides the true reality (Enlightment).

**=see the last lines of the first asterisk: that’s the concept.

***=some teaching of Buddhism describe the path to Enlightment like a fall to the Void in which one gradually leaves behind every thought and in the end, free from everything, realize the Truth.

****= I’m really not sure about this sentence. The pleasures may be the “pleasures of life” which are the weigh on people’s back (maybe).

To understand this song it’s necessary to be familiar with many Buddhist concept. I am quite enough to understand, but not enough to explain them with few words.

Title: Song of the Double Suicide*

Come on, let’s go, let’s pay our last visit hand in hand.

The time we spent wondering about our tedium is the past…

To walk along with a face staring to the death is to show our affection,

we rip off the page of the calendar as usual, but depression cries out**.

If you pay attention to that voice in the floating*** night…

you will hear the sound of your vein throbbing.

Let’s sing our goodbye, in order to be together forever

we’ll consume greedily our love and praise this double suicide.

Let’s sing our goodbye, in order to meet by chance again one day

we’ll consume greedily our grief**** and praise the poem of our feelings*****.

“Song of the double suicide*

Our guts are hanging out,

burnt rubbish is scattered around,

the rotten smell we breath in and out with our broken breaths has the sweet smell of the love we felt.

Love is what won’t make us apart even if we are sunk down.

Love is what won’t make us come back even if we are buried.

Even if are bodies will be worm eaten, it will be a feast of entangled bones******.

If it had a shape, it would be a bubble, if you touch it, it will explode and disappear,

Let’s take with us to the realm of the dead this faded fragments.

Pain is transient, the blade dances,

don’t look back, let’s laugh together!

Notes and Other

*=Double suicide was the act perpetrated by two lovers who can’t live their love story without “breaking the law” (this is a really rough definition, I’m sure you’ll find much better explanation on the net) and so they decided to commit suicide together so that their bond could make them meet again in their next life.

**=the verb here means “to cry” but it refers to the cry of an animal. The pun is that when a new day comes (“when we rip off the page of the calendar) birds start to chirp (cry), but here instead is “depression” that cries.

***=it is a reference to “Ukiyo”Literature (Literature of the Floating World), in this literature pretty much every story ends with the double suicide.

****=it is read in the same way as “love” but written with a different ideogram.

*****=it is read in the same way as “praise this double suicide” but written with different ideograms.

******=”entangled” here means that their body are rotting entangled but also that their fate is the same.

That’s a lot of asterisk you know, do you even expect people to read it? Of.Fucking.Course.Please.

A song combining love and grotesque images. That’s pretty much it.
