Title: A thousand cranes*

It has bloomed, it has bloomed, the dream has bloomed,

spread your vividly coloured wings and,

it has bloomed, it has bloomed, the dream has bloomed,

go to a far away place.**

“Farewell”

It tore apart, it tore apart, the dream tore apart,***

My feet and hand are bounded but there’s one ray of hope,

it tore apart, it tore apart, the dream tore apart,

in this place.**

“Farewell”

Your small hand, the ideal which keeps me spinning, it’s like thin ice,

a life full of responsibilities is like a bed of nails.

“Deliver it to the skies”

Innocence is a posthumous cruelty****.

My lamentations, do they reach you?

My scattered screams and tears are the fragment of a thousand cranes,

I rise up my hanged neck, piercing screams, the sound of wings.

Fluttering and fluttering…

If you dance in circle,

the bonding thread will invite you to play.

“Farewell”

My life is playfully folded by thin hands,

but even if the wings spread, they don’t flap, my last days, which come fast, burst open.*****

“Farewell”

A short life is like a spring in which cherry flowers bloom profusely, the sky is distant******,

I still dream but even now I’m on a bed of nails.

“Deliver it to the skies”

Let’s deliver the pain to the thousand (cranes).

My lamentations, do they reach you?

Notes and Other

*=Cranes, along with turtles, are a symbol of longevity in Oriental culture. It is said that saying a thousand times “crane” or “turtle” one can gain a longer life, the same goes if someone folds a thousand paper sheets into a thousand origami cranes. Also, by doing this, one can have one of his/her dreams granted.

**=These sentences have been cut and mixed: the order is 1-3 and 2-4.

***=it does sound the same as “bloom”but it is a written with a different ideogram.

****=I really don’t know about this sentence. I translated it mainly by instinct but I’m sure it has to be something like and old saying of the past but I haven’t found any clue.

*****=I think it is a way to introduce the saying that appears later in the song saying that “a short life is like a flower in a spring in which cherry flowers bloom profusely”.

******=I think it is a part of a longer old saying or poem but I couldn’t find anything because when I tried to search on the net the opening of Fate/Zero polluted all of the result since it has that part in its title (fuck you Fate/Zero).

Picture this song as something written by someone who can’t stand his/her life any more and wishes (see note *) for its life to be taken. No, he/she’s not an average tumblr girl, looks more like a noble from Heian period because of all the quotes from classical books.
