Hello Sleepwalkers – 新世界 (Shinsekai) Translation

Title: New World

An exhausted fish, that is our shadow,

swimming upstream.

Our broken and scattered dreams float on the surface of the water:

it’s already this season.

Since when have I started this journey with you?

I can’t even remember the reason nor the answer, and it’s so scary.

The piled up lights, a triangular sun

The future* we traced is imprisoned in a 6 and a half tatami room,

and, just like rubbish, time piles up,

goodbye new world.

A migratory bird without wings nor a map

walks against the wind towards somewhere,

the dream’s boarder wavers over the sands:

it’s already this season.

The skyline** of the mountains is an ocean of tears.

The piled up lights, a triangular sun

The future* we traced is imprisoned in a 6 and a half tatami room,

and, just like rubbish, time piles up,

goodbye new world.

Adam and Eve where just acting,

but in the eternal Eden garden they felt a never ending overflowing void inside.

Let’s start a story without a predetermined day,

for example with this sound.

The heart keeps pounding, like a symmetrical line of body heat,

even if this faint sense of freedom keeps us where we are

I remember the feeling of not having a direction to go to,

the one accidental encounter of that time.

The “last”*** encore, let’s stomp on these electric circuits,

with your thirsty breath surpass the odometer,

because this eye piercing light

there is a faint new world.

The after-image of ideal and illusion,

a mirage, it bends and vanishes, the shadow of that day

has a sound that awakens the cells.

A faint new world.

Notes and Other

*= This is written as to mean “one’s own perception of the future”.

**= The word “skyline” is written using also 波 which means “wave” and which links the word with “ocean” in the same line.

***= I translated this word using quotation marks because before the actual word “last” there is a kanji meaning “contrary”. What they want to convey is that it’s not actually the last encore.

New song by Hello Sleepwalkers, talking about the struggle of finding a future in this world, which seems so claustrophobic and transient.
