Asian Kung Fu Generation (Rotti) – ソラニン (Solanin) Translation

Kanji

Translation

In the far away sky of mistakes

awaits a life of just goodbyes?

Even though I saw a bit of the true future

it’s already a goodbye.

The apartment in which I used to live once

now someone else is living in it.

Even those mean words you said to me

seem unreal everyday.

If that one time I did that, if I could go back to that day…

But it’s too late to go back to the me of that time

If, by any chance, this slow happiness would wearily continue,

bad seeds would appear for sure,

so this is a goodbye.

The coffee can cooled by the cold winter

and your rainbow coloured long scarf,

jog your way out of these creepy alleys

and try to remember

If, by any chance, this slow happiness would wearily continue,

bad seeds would appear for sure,

so this is a goodbye.

Goodbye, it’s fine like this,

you’ll be fine somewhere

and I’ll be fine somewhere else as well,

I’ll do like that…

Notes and Other

Yeah, I know, it may seem an old and pretty plain song but these lyrics are simply the anxiety of becoming adult. Also, if you haven’t read/seen “Solanin” yet, go fucking do it. The author, Inio Asano, is the one who wrote the lyrics. And then come back and cry with me.

Solanin is a substance which can be found in a lot of common vegetables, like potatoes, and in excessive quantities can become poisonous to human.

As if to do a parallel, it is possible to say that the solanin in us humans is the kind of melancholy which the song talks about.
