Title: Hazy moon night

Hazy moon night

A rotting crooked figure pierce and sticks into the childish heart without fading,

even if you try to put it back into those childish days, it hurts, it hurts.

Even though you can’t have superficial dreams*, a crooked figure fits deep into you,

and even if you keep changing your mind night after night, still…

The hand caressing the night plugs the petals of flowers, blooming and withering their smell lingers and sticks to you,

dreams** of desiring a flower bud recur and in the reality** a red moon sleeps.

A screaming and crying voice pierces painfully your ear so

let’s completely plug our ears with lukewarm feeling of our bodies.

The hand which is letting you down in the dark plucks the petals of flowers, to be cut open and die of noble death*** is a voluptuous beautiful sight.

dreams** of desiring sadness recur and in the reality** a night flower sleeps.

Even though your love maybe without lies, you still purr**** as if you don’t realize it,

under the gentle mask you display, you disguise your vulgar desires

but if you were to tear part that thin layer, it would be inconveniently lewd,

let’s just put everything into a box, close it and pretend as if your heart isn’t breaking apart.

The enjoyment that taint the purity are inconveniently lewd.

Young girl, rot, flower bud, bloom, dream, sleep, night,

hurt, poverty, fade, licentiousness, drowning, red, mist

Let’s make flowers bloom in the dark night, the moon will be tainted in red.

When you touch with your fingertips and tongue it becomes inconveniently lewd.

Covered in dew*****, let’s drown, these are the two sides of chastity and pleasure,

when the pain taints red it becomes inconveniently lewd.

The hand holding the darkness plucks the petals of flowers, after you bloomed and scattered, you end up pleading for mercy,

dreams** of desiring a fantasy recur and in the reality** you sleep counting on your finger******.

Notes and Other

*=a quote from the Iroha poem. I’ve explained its meaning so many times I think you may just google it by yourself.

**= the way this sentence has been written is as if these two words were in contrast.

***=the verbs used here have a very loose meaning and this sentence may be interpreted as “to be separated by your lover and lose your color”.

****=in a popular song with the same title as this, there’s a purring sound. Also, it’s a way to say “to remain docile to one’s own master”.

*****=it may also mean “tears”.

******=counting how many days until the protagonist will be thrown away by its lover.

So, this song is actually a big fucking deal. If you read “The tales of Genji” you know why.

“Oborozukiyo” it’s the title of the 8th chapter in which Genji, in order to cover its love relationship with Murasaki (which is also the protagonist of this song), starts hitting on an other women with whom he flirted in the past. But, when he wanted to check Murasaki’s reaction to this, she showed no reaction at all and he felt as she wouldn’t care about him anymore. So, he asks her to teach a younger girl how to be fascinating as her, as if he wanted to replace Murasaki with a younger woman.

Probably, the title of the chapter represents the feelings of Murasaki which, keeping her composure and not starting to argue is compared to the perfect calmness of the moon which is veiled by some mist, representing the tumultuous feeling in her heart (and also a bad sign for the future since she will soon die).

The songs tries to interpret the feeling of Murasaki, the girl who has been raised by Genji since the age of 8 to be the ideal woman, who, when she start to age, feels as if she is being thrown away after being forced to create her successor as lover of Genji.

Title: The flower of feelings****

A baby first cry resounds* and you turn to look that hand**.

What do you desire? What you don’t desire?

You chase a silhouette no one will ever grasp, like a child lost into a maze of colours.

You keep fooling yourself saying “I’m in love”, and coal the white space.***

As if to peek through your heart wavering into the quiet night,

the hand of which you touched the fingertips now pushes on your back.

As if soaring high, what do you see?

Your destiny is certainly just that voice.

Ah, as a shout which fills your heart and cries out

that pulse is still beating, may it live long!

The noisy sound of the feeling mixes into the sound of the rain,

if you listen closely, it’s like walking alone beside a canal.

Half awake and half asleep, you hold onto that single poem.

While you are in full bloom, what do you desire?

Even though if you lick your scars it feels better, keeps recurring these “Flower of feelings****”.

Ah, every time our lives burn it hurts but

that pulse is still beating, may it live long!

Our bodies come to an end, wither and disappear, but still into the lingering aroma the tears keep flowing.

While you are in full bloom, what are you dancing?

While you are in full bloom, what are you thinking?

While you are in full bloom, what are you begging for?

Our lives almost transparent to the sun are a recurring “Flower of feeling****”.

Ah, as a voice raises and cries

that pulse is still beating, may it live long!

Notes and Other

*=As if it was the sound of a musical instrument

**=I think the perspective in this song is the one of a woman (probably Murasaki) giving birth to a child, so, she can’t completely see her child.

***=It’s a really complicate sentence, maybe the meaning is that she is writing “I’m in love” on the pages of her diary (the white space).

****=It may be interpreted as “flowers” but also as “result”, as if it was the product of passion between two lovers.

An interesting song linked to the next, showing the bright side of passion (the birth of new life) through the life of a noble woman of the Heian period in which, on the contrary, passion was thought as something transitory and bound to disappear causing grief and, ultimately sorrow will have kept the souls keeping them from reaching Nirvana.

Morrigan – Everlasting Translation

Kanji-Romaji

Translation

In the midst of a dim light, covered in ashes, I touched it,

and the floating wishes have melt into darkness.

As if I traced it with my fingers, the tomorrow split off and got lost,

does light shine equally on everybody?

In the faded room, bloomed a rusty Iris*, because I desired for something.

All but useless

You might as well embrace it

the ending of your life

As it everything plays its melody together, it peels off and fall, even this dried out world

will eventually lose its color and putrefy.

Even the dim light, scattered and fallen into the deepest of depths,

will be deprived of everything and lose even the tomorrow.

Right now, without any emotion, everything ends.

Even the only light remaining will be lost and vanish.

I can’t forget everlasting

I put a single hope into my song and kept singing,

even if this body is already exhausted.

In the midst of a dim light, covered in ashes, I touched it.

Notes and Other

Words in Italic are in English in the original lyrics.

*= the Iris is flower of profound meaning in Asia, being a symbol for longevity (that’s why “everlasting” is the title) as well as a talisman against evil and a way to describe heroic deeds of the pure of hearts (it was usually painted on the soldiers armor as a way to grant good luck).

It’s an interesting starting MV by Morrigan, stating that, even if the world is falling apart, the will keep singing their determination (represented by the Iris).

It’s a shame Morrigan’s lyrics are so difficult to find, so if some of you could help me I’ll gladly translate the rest of the songs they made.

Title: Words

It’s easy to love,

I already got used to being hated.

I said I love you but

if I can’t convey such meaning it’s no use.

“Every end it’s the beginning of something”,

I guess you understand there’s no such an easy thing.

It’s not like “if you say it by words it will reach to you”,

“If keep believing you’ll be saved”,

if it is really so, why am I crying?

There’s no way I can erase that foolish moment,

while crying, you’re so dear* to the point that I can almost laugh

and I love you.

The phrase “you are beautiful”

seemed distorted to me.

Something that will wear off

and restlessly gets weaker and weaker,

Love is also this.

It’s not like something that won’t vanish no matter how many time goes by,

I love you by doing everything I can**

and today too I’m crying.

The warmth you left behind won’t go away.

Just a bit, a bit more,

I want to love you.

I want to love.

There were the different vision of love,

mine and yours,

and there were things we couldn’t let go off,

to me and to you,

I won’t forget, I want to forget

the memories passing by***

but there also the future path

of me, of you.

It’s not like “if you say it by words it will reach to you”,

“If keep believing you’ll be saved”,

if it is really so, why am I crying?

The true “Love”,

time will gently turn it into a lie,

even so we

love,

praise love,

we get fascinated by each others and pass each others by,

but even so

I want to love.

Notes and Other

*=the word here has also the nuance of something that is dear and painful at the same time (similar to the feeling of longing for something).

**=it can be translated as “using all the tricks in the book” but the word itself is written using the kanji of “betraying”, “deceive”.

***= nice play on the word which can mean both “passing by without noticing” but also “not coincide”

I loved their latest album so I waited for some new release by them so that also you could enjoy.
