Dadaroma – Ars Amatoria Translation

Kanji-Romaji

Translation

I’ll teach you something:

restraining people is no good.

They let you pleasantly swim

into a comfortable big fish tank.*

“Hey, I’m yours”

You smile

You’re so pretentious, don’t you think? It’s so funny:

you always answer back with a “yes”.

You keep gifting me with just the things I love,

you say “You are a woman making a difference**”.

But by the moment you’ll realize this it will be already too late!

You won’t escape from me! What an easy victory!

Come on, gasp! Serve me!

Kneel down, look at me, lick!

Everything is like a TV drama,

it’s so funny, seeing you fall.

You say “Hey, I love you”… see?

Just as I planned.

When I ignored you waving your hand,

I did it on purpose.

Even your phone calls, one day, suddenly

I’ll just ignore them a bit.

But by the moment you’ll realize this it will be already too late!

You won’t escape from me! What an easy victory!

Ah, Ars Amatoria

Yes, Ars Amatoria

Every time we look at each other, you can’t avert your eyes,

the strategy is working!

Our dancing tongue, accept them

and let them entwine.

But by the moment you’ll realize this it will be already too late!

You won’t escape from me! What an easy victory!

What a dull man…

Notes and Other

*= That’s a big reference to their first ep, 溺れる魚(Oboreru Sakana) where they refer to people as fishes drowning in the fish tank of reality, thinking they’re free in the sea while they’re not.

**= Here he says literally “A woman who can” which is the definition for those woman who gained a pretty high ranked job despite their gender (yes, it’s still a big problem in Japan) and therefore feel emancipated. That’s why, even though in a relationship is the man giving the woman presents, here it says that she gifts the man with the presents he likes.

Being Italian, I was pretty much forced to study Latin at school and so I happen to know it quite well: the title means “The art of Loving” and it’s also the name of a famous book by Ovidio (more informations here ). That book is basically the first “methodical” book teaching the reader how to pick up pretty much every girl by even using sly tactics and fooling the lover.
